I. Certification

The Mid Hudson Chapter of ASQ provides members with on-going certification and re-certification support services to enhance and maintain professional stature and demonstrate proficiency in quality related disciplines.

Currently, certification examinations are held throughout the United states quarterly on a Saturday morning in March, June, October, and December. These examinations are for certification in the following categories and disciplines: Quality Auditor, Quality Engineer, Quality Manager, Reliability Engineer, Software Quality Engineer, and Six Sigma Black Belt. Other examinations are held for Mechanical Inspectors, Quality Technicians, and Quality Engineer-in-Training. Most examinations consist of multiple choice questions and are based on a specific Body of Knowledge developed by by ASQ. Several examinations (such as Quality Manager) may also have essay questions in addition to multiple choice. The length of examinations vary, but are typically 4-5 hours. Examinations are offered twice a year.

The certification chair of the Mid Hudson Section will make arrangements for an examination location in the Hudson Valley area, accommodating all examinees. Each examinee will be contacted by the Certification Chair or designated proctor to confirm the date, time, and location of the exam. Examinees are requested to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start, which is usually 8:00 AM.

Prospective members who intend to become certified quality professionals or who are thinking of becoming certified may contact the Section Certification Chair for additional information and literature, or may request a certification brochure from ASQ. An application in included in the brochure.

II. Recertification

Once having achieved certification, ASQ requires that you be recertified every three years. This is usually done by submitting a journal of your professional activities for the period to the recertification chair of your local chapter. Alternatively, you may choose to take another certification examination.

Allowable recertification activities are described the recertification booklet published by ASQ. A minimum of 18 recertification units within the three year certification period is required for recertification. There currently is a thirty dollar fee for members for recertification on one discipline and fifty dollars for two or more.
